BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is a popular undergraduate course in the field of dentistry. In Nepal, several universities offer BDS programs, and the course is typically five years in duration. The BDS program is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills related to dentistry, including diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of oral diseases. After completing the BDS program, graduates can work as general dentists, dental surgeons, or dental consultants. They can also pursue postgraduate programs such as MDS (Master of Dental Surgery), which can lead to specialization in areas such as orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery.

The scope of BDS in Nepal is promising, with a high demand for dental professionals in both private and public sectors. Dental clinics, hospitals, and research institutions are some of the common career paths for BDS graduates. The government of Nepal also offers job opportunities for dental graduates in various public health programs. BDS graduates can also work abroad in countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia, and the UK. However, for this, they need to clear various qualifying exams such as the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) and the Foreign Trained Dentist Examination (FTDE). Overall, BDS is a promising field in Nepal with a good career scope for those who are passionate about dentistry and oral health.
